Teachings on Sūtra + Resounding | Dzongsar Jamyang Khyentse Rinpoche

This Saga Dawa Düchen, listen to a Teaching on Sūtra and participate in a Resounding led by Dzongsar Khyentse Rinpoche. The beautiful short yet eloquent sūtra was first recited by Rinpoche in Tibetan, accompanied by the flute, then everyone resounded in English or the language of their choosing.

In the Teaching on Sūtra, Rinpoche discussed the mind of awakening as taught by the Buddha in The Gold Sūtra. Rinpoche explained that our minds are naturally pure and awakened but it’s challenging for us to recognize that. “As we lose our trust in this fundamentally, inherently pure gold-like mind, more and more we begin to become suspicious and get bombarded with hope and fear…dualistic mind completely covers the fully awakened mind that we have,” he said. But we must also have longing to fully realize this pure, gold-like mind. At the same time, Rinpoche explained, “we don’t have to acquire this gold-like awakened mind… you just have it.”

About Teachings on Sūtra

The Teachings on Sūtra webinar series draws from our translated collection of the Tibetan Buddhist canon and explores key themes from the sutras. Each event brings in teachers of the Buddhadharma to speak about the theme with reference to specific texts in the Kangyur, and takes place on what are considered to be the four most auspicious days of the Buddhist calendar: Celebration of the Buddha’s Miracles (Chötrul Düchen), Celebration of the Buddha’s Birth, Awakening, and Parinirvana (Saga Dawa), Celebration of the Buddha’s Teachings (Chökhor Düchen), and Celebration of the Buddha’s Return from the Realms of the Gods (Lhabab Düchen).
