Dr. Bruno Galasek-Hul

Associate Translator

Bruno Galasek-Hul has translated part-time for 84000 since 2015 and joined the organization as an associate translator in 2022.

Before joining the 84000 team, Bruno was a visiting scholar at UC Berkeley’s Center for Buddhist Studies, an adjunct professor at the Institute of Buddhist Studies, and a lexicographer for A Visual Dictionary and Thesaurus of Buddhist Sanskrit at the Mangalam Research Center for Buddhist Languages. Bruno earned his PhD from the University of Bonn, Germany, where he specialized in Classical Indology, Tibetan Studies, and the History of Indian Arts. As a DAAD doctoral exchange student, he had the privilege of studying and conducting research at the University of Oxford.

Since his days studying Latin in high school, Bruno has had a fascination with ancient languages and the treasures they hold. For him, translation is more than just analyzing grammar or deciphering scripts; it is akin to a detective's work. He did not, however, pursue a career as a Classics scholar, since Tibetan Buddhism entered his life very soon after at the age of eighteen, remaining at its center ever since. Bruno feels fortunate that both his personal interest and academic training in Buddhism have come together in his current role in the monumental and historic project of 84000.
