General Privacy Policy

84000: Translating the Words of the Buddha is a global non-profit initiative to translate the Tibetan Buddhist canon into English, and to make them freely available to everyone. We use internet technologies, such as this website and our newsletter, to raise awareness about our initiative and to publish our work. We only collect any information from our users in the form of analytics, form subscriptions, newsletter subscriptions and donor subscriptions. There is currently no functionality in the public facing websites that require user profiles, user history or usernames and passwords. Our servers contain no logs related to individual usage.

Cookies

“Cookies” are small text files that are stored by your browser when you visit a website. Cookies allow the websites you visit to recognize your device and remember if you have been there before. Cookies are widely used in order to make websites work more efficiently, as well as providing information to the owners of websites on site usage and performance. Some cookies are generated by our site to support the website functionality. Examples include: remembering the last page you visited on the site or your bookmarked passages. We do not currently store any of this data on our servers. If you delete these cookies then the data will be lost. If you block these cookies, the functionality will not be available to you. 84000 asks for consent for storing cookies.

Website Platform and Analytics

84000’s website is built using Webflow. Webflow is the world's leading visual development platform for building websites without writing code. Form submissions are stored on Webflow servers and are not used by 84000 other than the purposes for which the form submissions serve and that you consent to. Webflow's privacy policy and terms of service are available here.

84000 uses Posthog Analytics to collect information about how our site is used. For example, is our site getting more or less users? Where do our users come from? Which languages do our users view the website in, and on which devices do they use the website on? This information allows us to develop the site according to best meet the needs of our users. Posthog's privacy policy is available here for specific terms on how Posthog uses data gathered by 84000’s website.

Media

We have YouTube videos embedded in our site. These videos are streamed from youtube.com. YouTube places cookies on your computer. We have no control over the code provided by YouTube nor can we configure what they do with that data. Here is a link to YouTube's privacy policy.

Subscribers

If you subscribe to our newsletter, you will be added to our mailing list managed by our mailing list provider MailChimp and that information is synchronized to Keela, our donor management service. A link to subscribe from the mailing list gathers information you provide by consent.  Here is a link to Keela's privacy policy and MailChimp's privacy policy. Unsubscribing does not permanently delete your details from our database. If you would like to have your information removed please contact us at info@84000.co.

Donor Information

If you become an 84000 donor, we will ask you to provide us with some details about yourself. This is a regulatory requirement of the donation process and must be retained for financial reporting. This data is stored and managed by Keela, not 84000’s server. This information is used internally within the organization. Some names of our donors are listed in the sponsors section of this website. Inclusion in this list is only with donors’ prior consent. Other donor information is strictly confidential and not stored on publicly accessible servers and is not shared with anybody outside of the organization.  Here is a link to Keela’s privacy policy.
