Laura Goetz
Associate Editor
Laura edits the translations and maintains 84000’s guidelines for translators and editors.
Laura began studying Tibetan Buddhism along with Sanskrit and Tibetan in 2011 when she enrolled at Naropa University following a growing interest in meditation and religious literature. After receiving her master’s degree in 2014, she has had the fortune to engage with a number of editorial, organizational, and research projects ever since, working with the Tsadra Foundation and Shambhala Publications and as a freelance editor for works related to Buddhism studies. She also subsequently spent time in Eastern Tibet (documenting traditional dance and theater and teaching English) and North India (studying Tibetan). Laura joined 84000 in 2017 as a digital editor and later worked as a copyeditor. She is currently completing her PhD at the University of Vienna on the intersection of tantra and Mahāyāna philosophy in Indian Buddhism.
Laura grew up in upstate New York and received her BA in English and creative writing from Cornell University. After a short stint as a flight attendant, she found odd jobs in the art world in New York City and traveled internationally for several years playing music, which gave her a lot of time for contemplation. She is in awe every day of being able to work on such a profound historic project that balances scholarly integrity, artistry, and heart.
