Dr. Rory Lindsay

Research Editor

Rory Lindsay is a research editor at 84000 and an assistant professor in the Department for the Study of Religion at the University of Toronto.

Rory is both a research editor at 84000 and an assistant professor at the University of Toronto, where he teaches courses on classical Tibetan language and Tibetan Buddhism. Rory completed his BA and MA degrees in Buddhist studies at the University of Toronto and then pursued his PhD at Harvard, where he taught Tibetan for several years. On completing his PhD in 2018, Rory became a visiting scholar at UC Santa Barbara, where he taught before joining 84000 as an editor.

Rory sees editing 84000's translations as a form of Buddhist practice, and giving himself time to sit with these texts has been one of the most transformational experiences of his life, allowing him to better appreciate Buddhist teachings as they were preserved in Tibet. He feels that the act of translation is difficult but allows us to engage with the material in ways that we might not otherwise. He is grateful that he can contribute to 84000’s mission.
