在本經中，世尊簡要開示了有為法的無常本性。一切眾生，無論其具何等種姓，不論是生為天人，甚或是已證得阿羅漢、辟支佛乃至如來果位，但凡有生，終將隕滅。經文末尾，世尊復以偈文勸誡大眾：諸行無常，寂滅為樂。
