84000: Translating the Words of the Buddha is a global non-profit initiative to translate all of the Buddha’s words into modern languages, and to make them available to everyone.
We use internet technologies, such as this website and our newsletter, to help raise awareness of and publish our work.
We do not collect any data about users of our site except in the form of analytics, newsletter subscriptions or donor subscriptions.
There is currently no functionality in the public facing websites that require user profiles, user history or usernames and passwords. Our servers contain no logs related to individual usage.
“Cookies” are small text files that are stored by your browser when you visit a website.
They allow the websites you visit to recognise your device and remember if you have been there before. Cookies are widely used in order to make websites work more efficiently, as well as providing information to the owners of websites on site usage and performance.
Some cookies are generated by our site to support website and Reading Room functionality such as remembering the last page you visited on the site and your bookmarked passages. We do not currently store any of this data on our servers. If you delete these cookies then the data will be lost. If you block these cookies, the functionality will not be available to you.

We use Google Analytics software to collect information about how our site is used. e.g. Is the site getting more or less users? Where do our users come from? Reading which languages? Using which devices? This allows us to develop the site according to best meet the needs of our users.
Whilst we can’t control the code used in Google Analytics, we configure it to prevent Google from using the data generated or sharing it with others.
However we trust that Google is a responsible data host and honours its legal requirements.

If you subscribe to our newsletter, you will be added to our mailing list managed by our mailing list provider Salesforce (https://www.salesforce.com) and sent by our newsletter provider Vertical Response (https://www.verticalresponse.com). Each email you receive includes a link to unsubscribe from the mailing list; however, unsubscribing does not permanently delete your details from our database.

If you become an 84000 donor, we will ask you to provide us with some details about yourself. This is a regulatory requirement of the donation process and must be retained for financial reporting. This data is stored in our donor database used internally within the organisation. Some names of our donors are listed in the sponsors section of this website (http://84000.co/about/sponsors/). Inclusion in this list is only with donors’ prior consent. Other donor information is strictly confidential and not stored on publicly accessible servers and is not shared with anybody outside of the organisation.
