An often-quoted sūtra in which the Buddha teaches the negative consequences of breaking the five precepts, and in particular inebriation by alcohol, to the layman Nandika; see The Sūtra of Nandika (Nandikasūtra, Toh 334). For an edition and English translation of the extant Skt. witness, see the Āryanandikaparipṛcchāsūtra, in Vinīta 2010, pp. 97–114.
