Third Bodhi Tree Resounding

84000 and Dzongsar Khyentse Chokyi Lodro Institute recently hosted the “Third Resounding Under the Bodhi Tree” at the Mahabodhi Temple in Bodhgaya. About 1,000 monks and 500 lay attendees participated. Led by Dzongsar Khyentse Rinpoche, Chair of 84000, participants read from two of 84000's newly translated texts: The Question of Maitreya and The Question of Maitreya on the Eight Qualities.

This Resounding was unique in several ways: it was prefaced by the first ever children’s mini-resounding; Rinpoche gave a speech in Tibetan on the importance of translating the Kangyur; and it was sandwiched between two days of teachings on one of the texts. READ MORE

Interview with Mingyur Rinpoche

Mingyur Rinpoche shared his thoughts on the importance of translating sutras in an interview in Singapore. Rinpoche explains that 84000 is “really meaningful for the world and for everybody.”

Rinpoche explains that the words of the Buddha are the basis of understanding Buddhism and meditation. He shared, “The Kangyur has so many different types of teachings; it is like [the] ocean... And you can also know some...a little bit of history from there, and, of course, you can learn some meditation - [it's] the original source of Buddhist meditation.” The full interview includes thoughts on how to continue 84000's work and the importance of forming friendships in the process. Sutra Teachings in Bodhgaya

On the rooftop of the Via Elementary School in Bodhgaya, Dzongsar Khyentse Rinpoche gave teachings on one of 84000’s newly translated sutras, The Question of Maitreya, a “very difficult to explain” sutra, to an audience of 500 attendees of various nationalities and spiritual backgrounds.

Rinpoche began by drawing attention to the location and asked listeners to reflect on the notion that “it was somewhere here… we may be sitting on the very spot where Buddha had walked.” Thank you to Deer Park Institute (Siddhartha’s Intent India) and Siddhartha’s Intent Singapore for organizing and sharing the teaching on this important sutra.
