Happy Saga Dawa!
To honor the occasion, here is an excerpt from 84000's translation of The Sūtra on Reliance upon a Virtuous Spiritual Friend: "By relying on me as their spiritual friend, sentient beings subject to birth will be completely released from being subject to birth, and sentient beings subject to aging, sickness, death, sorrow, lamentation, suffering, distress, and agitation will be completely released from being subject to aging, sickness, death, sorrow, lamentation, suffering, distress, and agitation.”

We are currently in the process of translating a total of 202 texts or 23,426 pages (one-third of the Kangyur). As we commemorate the Buddha's birth, enlightenment and passing during Saga Dawa, we invite you to read the words of the Buddha at the Reading Room. READ MORE
Featured Sūtra
Just prior to his passing away, Buddha Śākyamuni reminds his disciples of the importance of living with a qualified spiritual teacher.

H.H. Chetsang Rinpoche on 84000
His Holiness Chetsang Rinpoche shares about the importance of translating the sūtras into English and reading them. "[Even] by hearing the name of a Buddha, by writing and reading the sūtras, we will purify our karmic obscurations. Therefore [reading sūtras] is beneficial for our dharma practice; it has great powers of blessing and can remove our karmic obscurations. Also, this is one of the best methods to accumulate merits," he explains.

"I made a decision that when I go outside to teach, I will share the actual words of the Buddha... So what you have given me is extremely precious. So now as I travel around the world, whenever there is an opportunity, I will share these teachings. Thank you very much." READ MORE

The Power Of More
Every year during Chinese New Year, Lay Ching has been organizing a group of Malaysian Buddhists – consisting of friends, family and sangha members – to contribute funds to 84000. Over six years, a total of 418 people have made donations, raising enough to sponsor 86 pages to date. Each person receives recognition for their individual donation, but also knows that their community contributed to something far greater. Individual donations range anywhere from $5 USD to $1,000 USD.

“I believe in the power of persistent effort and unity, and also in my teacher’s words of advice: ‘One should not refrain from an act of kindness simply because it is small.’ When there is conviction, there is power”. READ MORE
