Dr. Jeremy S. Manheim specializes in Buddhist philosophy, drawing on his background in both contemporary philosophy and Indo-Tibetan Buddhist texts. Alongside his textual research and editorial work, Dr. Manheim teaches in the Philosophy Department at the University of Wisconsin-Madison.
Dr. Manheim became interested in Buddhism as a teenager and began studying Tibetan language and Buddhist philosophy in earnest as an undergraduate at the University of Wisconsin in 2000. After continuing his study of Buddhism and philosophy at Harvard, Dr. Manheim enrolled in a Tibetan monastery in India, where he remained for nine years, studying Buddhist texts through the traditional pedagogy of memorization and debate. Dr. Manheim returned to the University of Wisconsin in 2017 to pursue doctoral research in Buddhist philosophy, hoping to explore new ways that Buddhist thought and practice can make a difference in contemporary contexts. That same hope drives his work at 84000.
