84000 Matures to Independence
-
We are delighted to announce that 84000 is now successfully established as an independent, global organization, with a separate 501(c)3 nonprofit status in the United States.

-

Since its inception, 84000 has received infrastructural and administrative support from Khyentse Foundation, as well as more than US$4 million in restricted donations. All of this support from KF has enabled 84000 to embark immediately on the core work of translation and publishing on an online platform.

-

With this new beginning, 84000 will keep its momentum and continue to strive to fulfil its vision of providing universal access to the words of the Buddha through translation. Read more

Steady Progress on Translations
-
Since our inception in 2010, 84000 has been focusing efforts on the translation of the Kangyur. Currently 144 translators are at work and 105 texts or 10,027 pages (more than 15% of the Kangyur) have been or are being translated into English. Fourteen completed translations (representing 669 pages of Tibetan) are now published online in the 84000 reading room.

With the closure of the fourth grant cycle, the grants committee is evaluating all proposals received, and will be commissioning a new batch of translations starting January 2014. Please help us to keep up with the pace of our translations by sponsoring a page or sponsoring a sutra. Read more

Spreading Awareness
qweqwe
With the help of staff and volunteers, 84000 is reaching out to a wider community. In the past few months, presentations were made in Hong Kong, Taiwan and India, reaching out to more than 1,200 people.

On October 27, 2013, we will be holding a symposium titled “Translating the Words of the Buddha: Preserving A Priceless Legacy of India” in New Delhi. The purpose of this event is to spread awareness of the words of the Buddha (Kangyur and Tengyur) as a heritage of India, and to discuss the role that India and Indians can play in sharing its legacy of wisdom with the world.
