世尊在涅槃前留下了此《十一想說示經》，告諸比丘於命終時應作十一想：不貪此世想，慈諸有情想，棄諸懷恨想，懺諸破戒想，受諸正戒想，於諸大罪作清凈想，於諸小善根作大善想，不畏他世想，諸有為無常想，諸法無我想，涅槃寂滅想。
