In the recently translated, Tārā Who Protects from the Eight Dangers, the goddess Tārā warns the gods of the desire realm about the miseries of saṃsāra and offers a pithy Dharma teaching to free them from harm.

Composed by our Founding Chair, Dzongsar Khyentse Rinpoche, for our tenth anniversary, “May There Never Be a Time…” is an aspiration prayer for the fulfillment of our vision to make the words of the Buddha freely and easily accessible to all.

The Suffering of Change in Today’s World

Last month, Deborah Dorjee—in her capacity an instructor at Siddhartha’s Intent—kindly hosted a session during our twenty-four hour virtual sūtra recitation. A Tribute to Steven Goodman, 1945-2020

All of us at 84000 were very sad to learn that our dear friend and colleague Steven Goodman, one of the founding members of 84000’s Working Committee, died in the afternoon of Monday, 3 August, at the age of 75. His natural curiosity led him into all sorts of cultural, intellectual, and artistic fields, and as a teacher he used his eclectic knowledge to weave bright webs of interconnected ideas around whatever topic he spoke on. His wit and wisdom, his kindness and concern, his lightness and his deep understanding, and his colorful, slightly bohemian elegance will be sorely missed.

Cultural Translation: Setting the Sūtras to Music

In June, 84000 reached out to US-born, Taiwan-transplant Harry Einhorn for an original musical composition to accompany our recently published text, “The Dedication: Fulfilling All Aspirations.” Here, we sit down with Harry to talk about Buddhism and creative culture, how to be bold in using English-language texts, and how setting the sūtras to music—with “now-ness”—might help support the generation of a practice-mind.
