Design for Wisdom. Doodle for 84000!

Design an 84000 doodle for our 10th birthday!

What is an 84000 doodle?
Respectfully borrowed from Google’s temporary creative and commemorative alterations to their homepage logo; an 84000 doodle, is a special, temporary alteration of our logo to mark our upcoming 10 year anniversary.

The theme for this anniversary year is Tech for Wisdom and it’s all about leveraging technology to make this archive of wisdom more easily located, readable, and understandable.

Where will the 84000 doodle be used?
The doodle may be used on the 84000 homepage throughout the 2020 year; on our social media platforms; on relevant printed material and gifts; and during our celebratory anniversary events.

Why is 84000 doing this contest?
84000 has always been dependent on the support and generosity of our friends around the world, and as we turn 10 years old, we can’t think of a more participatory way to celebrate than to engage you all in creative expressions of our work, and share the surprise and delight with our audiences in 2020.

Who is eligible to participate?
Everyone!

 

How it works

Use your imagination to create an 84000 doodle based on how our vision inspires you. Participants can work with any materials they want, but all doodles must be submitted over email.

The contest is open for entries until October 1, 2019 5:00pm (EST), so here’s some information to help you get started:

1. Download or print the logo template of your choice: Logo Templates

2. Doodle: Create your doodle using any materials you want

3. Write:
A. Give your Doodle a title (10 words max)

B. (Optional) Doodle description: Write an artist statement to tell us a bit more about what you have drawn and how it represents Tech for Wisdom, 84000’s work, or something that inspires you.

4. Submit:
A. Template form doodles: If the doodle is created directly on our template form, you can either upload them to an email as a .jpg or .png.

B. Detached doodles: If the doodle wasn’t created directly on our entry form, take a high res digital photo or scan of the doodle in good lighting and attach it to an email.

Judging Criteria

Doodles will be judged on the following parameters:

1. Artistic merit:
Based on artistic skill and presentability.

2. Creativity:
Representation of the contest theme, use of the numbers and letters in the 84000 logo, and the unique approach to the doodle

3. Theme communication:
How well the contest theme is expressed in both the artwork and the written statement

4. Ease of reproduction: For the purposes stated above.

The winning entry will be selected by a panel comprised by 84000.

The winner will be notified via email.

The winner will receive public acknowledgement across our digital platforms as well as a surprise gift! This prize remains the same regardless of the size of the team submitting the winning entry. The prize cannot be exchanged for cash.

 

FAQs

Do doodles have to be drawn directly on the template?
No. As long as you are able to take a photo of the doodle attach it to an email, you can enter a doodle created on any material.

How should the 84000 logo be incorporated?
Participants can trace the logo outline on the entry form, or start from scratch by using any materials they wish. You are free to design your own doodles however you want as long as they use the numbers 8-4-0-0-0.

Is there a fee to enter the contest?
There is no fee to enter this contest.

How many designs can I submit?
Entries are limited to two (2) submissions per individual/group.
