We are truly delighted to announce that Dr. Tom Tillemans has formally come on board 84000 as the Project Editor. Charged with the important responsibility of overseeing the editorial processes, he plays a critical role in ensuring the quality of our translations, as we systematically work towards the entire Kangyur and Tengyur being translated.
Dr. Tillemans has been Professor of Buddhist Studies at the University of Lausanne, Switzerland for almost twenty years. With his vast knowledge in Buddhist studies and philosophy, expertise in Tibetan and Sanskrit, and, most importantly, his passion in translating the words of the Buddha, we are confident that Dr. Tillemans’ addition to the team will bring 84000 to greater heights.

Remembering the Spirit of Gene Smith

Our colleague E. Gene Smith passed away in his home, in New York, on December 16, 2010. As we bid farewell to our most beloved friend, his spirit of giving and total dedication toward the Dharma continue to inspire and motivate us, as we seek to make the Dharma available to as many people as possible.

Dzongsar Khyentse Rinpoche said of Gene, “As a Tibetan, especially as a Tibetan lama, Rinpoche, or recognised Tulku, his activities put us, at least me, to shame… I hope that not only we the Tibetans, Bhutanese, and Sikkimese will emulate a great person like Gene Smith’s courage and relentless diligence, I hope that the Western Dharma students will also emulate what he did. And if we do that, then I think we will not forget Gene Smith for a long long time.”
