The Sutra on Dependent Arising

84000’s most recent translation, The Sutra on Dependent Arising, discusses the Buddhist doctrine of the dependent arising of conditioned phenomena. Dependent arising, considered by many to be the essence of the Dharma, is often presented as a series of 12 links (nidana) of causes and effects. Review the 12 links and learn from 84000 translator Casey Kemp about the significance of the sutra and her 84000 translation experience.

Interview with Sutra Sponsor Lynda Chang

Meet 84000 sponsor Lynda Chang, who has sponsored the full-length translation of "The Collected Teachings on the Bodhisattva" in the name of her late husband. She speaks with 84000 about how she connected with Buddhism and why she supports the project of translating the Tibetan Buddhist canon into English, even though her native tongue is Chinese. When one has trouble reading the classical Chinese version of the text, Chang pontificates, “the English version is a very good place to start.”

2017 Global Resounding Reaches 72 Countries

On the 27th of February, marking the first day of the Tibetan New Year, 84000 and Siddhartha’s Intent hosted a global online “resounding” of the recently translated 84000 sutras from the Tibetan Buddhist Kangyur. Nearly 1,000 people from 37 towns and cities in 20 different countries across multiple time zones met online to recite the words of the Buddha at the same time through the conference call platform, Zoom. Another 11,000 people tuned into the resounding via live-streaming from an additional 52 countries.
